house in steyn city

This project is located in the prestigious Steyn City Estate. The site offers panoramic views of the natural landscape surrounding the site, as well as the recreational Golf Course.

The new 1300m² residence was morphed onto its site, focusing all attributes to orientation, views, and spatial experience. Materials that endorse these experiences were employed practically and adventurously, the use of glass, off-shutter concrete and steel were combined uniquely and inventively.

These materials moulded and transformed into one another, encompassing and organizing space in a bi-polar convention of Cartesian and organic space. Curved walls of concrete and glass soften the often-hard edges, inviting the outdoor landscape to be part of the home. Vertical metal screens offer the opportunity to filter light while allowing for some privacy.

The house in Steyn City is organized into three levels to accommodate the steep slope of the site, with ancillary accommodation on the lower level, living arrangements on the middle level, and private bedroom on the top level. The interwoven and morphed nature of the building allowed for the unforeseen opportunities of overlapping spaces, atriums, and light shafts to intersect the design.

The interiors – designed by M Square Lifestyle Design – are based on a dark monochrome palate with black timbers, deep marbles, and brass elements to break the monochromatic assemblage.

The living spaces are all open plan and visually linked to one another.  Boundaries between interior and exterior were blurred by using large sliding doors which enables the interior spaces to spill out onto the exterior.

The project is currently under construction.
