The Eighty Eight Residency
The Eighty Eight Residency
Set on a site overlooking a quiet river in Harare, Zimbabwe, this residence is shaped by a desire to blend architecture with its natural surroundings. Rather than imposing itself on the landscape, the building settles into it, using a material palette of concrete and glass to create a calm, grounded presence.
The structure’s low-slung profile and muted natural tones allow it to recede into the riverside vegetation, while large, glazed openings frame views of the water and invite the landscape into the interior. The use of raw concrete provides a robust, tactile quality, softened by the transparency and lightness of the surrounding glass.
Internally, spaces are arranged to follow the contours of the land, reinforcing the building’s connection to its site. Light, material, and landscape are treated as integral parts of the architecture, resulting in a home that is both restrained and deeply responsive to its environment.
