Residence Frans is located in the new prestigious Olivewood Estate on the outskirts of East London in the Eastern Cape.  The steep site boasts ocean vistas that are protected by a natural greenbelt.  The architecture is integrated within the site to allow for maximum uninterrupted views towards the east, whilst northern orientation dominates throughout.

The building is heavy and solid on the south and west, with minimal stone-clad and off-shutter concrete façades, but opens up completely towards the north and the east.

Planters and green roofs were used throughout the building to blur the transition between interior and exterior, and also to soften and romanticize the building within the landscape.

The large open terrace level features an integrated swimming pool that cantilevers over a landscaped terrace below.  The kitchen, dining, and family rooms all lead out onto the terrace, making it the ideal entertainment space.
