Located in the coastal town of Orihuela Costa, Alicante, Spain, this project reimagines a traditional residence into a modern sanctuary suited to the relaxed rhythm of Mediterranean living. The design ethos centers on creating a seamless connection between the interior and the outdoors, responding to the warm climate with a spacious, open-plan arrangement that encourages airflow and social interaction.

Navigating strict zoning limitations, the extension utilizes the site’s natural topography to expand the living space. Rather than building up, the additional volume is tucked into the slope beneath the existing structure. This strategic layering allows the home to gain significant floor area, while maintaining a low-profile silhouette that respects the local scale.

Despite being positioned on a lower level, these new spaces are anything but enclosed. Expansive glazing and a careful orientation toward the garden ensure the interiors are washed with natural light and ventilated by coastal breezes. The result is a home that feels grounded yet airy, offering a sophisticated interpretation of coastal architecture that balances privacy with an inviting openness.
