LATM RESIDENCE
LATM RESIDENCE
LATM residence is a contemporary farmhouse located in a respected equestrian estate on the outskirts of Johannesburg. The form-giving was based on two axis, with the datum creating the entrance that established a protective north-facing courtyard, serving as primary entertainment space.
The service spaces were lined up on the west of the site, shielding the building from the harsh western sun, whilst the rest of the building opens and dissolves towards the north. Honesty of materiality and structure were kept as the base rule throughout the project, leaving all major structural elements and materials exposed and kept to their natural state.
Exposed concrete, natural stone, steel, and glass are the primary materials used throughout this project, with folding pitched zinc roofs wrapping down on the facades drawn from the more traditional barn typologies. Balcony floor slabs were designed as green roof terraces, with lush cascading greenery to soften these robust materials.
LATM residence will serve its occupants with light-filled interior spaces, a comfortable climate, and an oasis ideal for a contemporary South African family.
