The House in Rietvlei Dam is a new residence of 1400 sq.m. at the Rietvlei dam near Tswane is situated on a 1ha. property overlooking the dam in an urban game reserve.
Exploring a theme of randomness inside a rigid rectangular framework, it is constructed from concrete, glass and rusted Cor-ten steel.
From a diagonal porte cochere a double volume entrance hall that flows into the dining room while looking into a atrium with a formal lounge and library on the west side and the family room, breakfast room and open plan kitchen on the east side.
Next to the dining room is a wine cellar and butler’s pantry connecting the kitchen and scullery to the dining room. A short diagonal passage connects the four-car garage angled at 45 degrees, to the house.
On the ground floor of the House in Rietvlei Dam is a gymnasium and a home cinema, as well as a home office with it’s own entrance, reception, boardroom, kitchenette and two offices.
On the first floor a pajama lounge overlooks the double volume family room and the five guest suites are connected to the main suite by a bridge across the double volume space.
A separate staff cottage consisting of a living room / kitchen bathroom and two bedrooms is connected to the guardhouse.
