COTTONWOOD RESIDENCE
COTTONWOOD RESIDENCE
The existing structure presented an array of geometric forms and lines, which were groundbreaking at its time. Special attention was given in the redesign to retain the essence of the original design, and to provide a timeless and current form. This was achieved through simplifying the existing structure and removing elements that no longer added to the design.
As such, form and shadow became the main design language of the building. Playing with the contrast between the stereotomic and tectonic, concave, and convex forms.
From these forms dramatic shadows were created. Stark shadows move along the public spaces at the entrance, and soft, filtered light passes through the screens in front of the living room and private areas, with uninterrupted views towards the golf course in the distance.
