Set within the mountains of the Western Cape just outside Montagu, the Abrikoos Kloof Reserve Pods were designed as a quiet, immersive retreat in a remote and untouched landscape. Our approach was to create a series of refined structures that sit lightly within the terrain, allowing the natural surroundings to take precedence.
Each pod is carefully positioned to capture uninterrupted 180-degree views across the valley, framing the vastness of the Little Karoo while maintaining a strong sense of privacy. Through the use of floor-to-ceiling glazing, restrained material palettes, and clean architectural lines, the boundary between interior and exterior is intentionally softened.
The project is rooted in simplicity and restraint. Accessed via a rugged off-road route, the experience begins long before arrival, reinforcing a sense of escape and removal from the everyday. Once on site, the architecture steps back, creating space for stillness, reflection, and a deeper connection to the landscape.
