10 houses in abidjan
The brief was for ten houses on a large parcel of land in the best area of Abidjan.
As the street was at a 45° angle to the north, the site was divided diagonally, resulting in triangular stands which required a more interesting solution than stands that are merely rectangular.
The owner also requested a variation in designs – he did not want mere copies. All the homes were to be built from steel, glass, concrete with some natural stone finishes. This resulted in five distinctly designed houses, then mirrored – each changed and adapted individually.
All the houses are designed with four suites, a study, a family/dining room open plan to the kitchen, and a large lanai.
Double volume spaces were used to create a spacious feel, and to allow light to enter from above the lanai roof.
Sun control was extremely important as it is a hot, tropical climate where the sun is never needed inside the dwellings, and all of the homes have their own swimming pools.
A guardhouse and gym were also supplied on the stand and provision was made for ample landscaping.
