HOUSE LAUDIUM

House Laudium  Design Description:

The client requested a house that resembled an Italian palace. Having to accommodate a large family, it was of utmost importance that this house was spacious, luxurious and comfortable.

It also had to be designed with the Islamic culture in mind. Understanding the client’s lifestyle developed the brief into an eight bedroom luxury home fit for a king.  Comprising of three storeys, this period house is positioned 15 degrees east of north to allow for a longer north facing façade.

Approaching the house you are faced with two hand-carved garage doors and an oversized hand-carved front door.

On arrival, the double volume porte cochere sets the scene of grandeur, on arrival while the handmade chandelier fills the double volume entrance hall, with a hand carved concrete staircase and designer balustrades, welcoming, you in with a sense of luxury and expansiveness.

Directly off the hall is the private study and a prayer room with a triple volume domed roof.

A double lounge and 18 seater dining room are placed opposite each other in the imposing passage, each fitted with massively built fireplaces and a hidden staircase leading to the entertainment mezzanines, both these rooms are nearly double volume. The family room leads out onto a covered patio and indoor pool with water feature allowing for the connection of spaces between the indoor and outdoor.

The ensuite guest bedroom is positioned in such a way that it feels private from the living spaces; its position on the ground floor creates a sense of comfort for guests.

The children’s bedrooms are designed that each pair shares their own lounge, while the main suite has its own private lounge adjacent to it.

The lower ground floor houses the marble inlaid swimming pool with an automated cover in a triple volume space with an automated opening skylight,  jacuzzi and water feature, billiards room, gymnasium with massage rooms, steam shower and his and hers dressing rooms, as well as a 20 seater home theatre.

A copper clad dome grazing the gazebo which has seating for 50 people is situated separate from the main house for entertaining purposes. It has its own kitchen and ablutions, and side entrance for caterers.

The gatehouse also accommodates a 3 suite cottage for the staff with its own living room/ kitchen, and an office for the owner on top of the guardhouse where he can hold business meetings.

It’s impressive to see a house of this stature with such attention to detail and with so many handmade elements. The architectural brilliance, along with the gifted craftsmanship of this house makes it the world class masterpiece that it is.

House Laudium Interior:

Interior design by M Square Lifestyle Design complements the architecture, using trompe l’oeil effects, custom made balustrades, chandeliers, carved concrete, marble and carved sandstone to complete the picture.

M Square Lifestyle Necessities accompanied the owner on Italian sourcing expeditions, and imported all the furniture, most of which was handmade, from Italy.
