MSQUARE LIFESTYLE DESIGN was founded by NICO VAN DER MEULEN ARCHITECTS with the intention of forming a perfectly symbiotic relationship between exterior and interior. With the company’s belief that there two entities should never be seen as seperate, MSQUARE LIFESTYLE DESIGN’s ideal would be to have an almost sealmless transition between inside and out with architecture and interior design complementing each other.

Nico van der Meulen Architects designed this contemporary home, with the most important design objectives being the views over the nature reserve, sun orientation and privacy. In stark contrast to the solid volumes of the street facade, the south glass facade allows for unobstructed views, and sliding glass doors connect the downstairs living and kitchen spaces to the separate outdoor entertainment area. However, in spite of this every room in the house still receives ample north sun. A concrete column and beam extend over the pool to frame the landscape, with the infinity pool reinforcing the idea of the interior space extending out. Materials and colours were chosen to complement the surrounding landscape, and through the use of different materials such as wood, steel and stone, and different variations in the application of these materials, the strong threedimensionality of this building is accentuated and celebrated.

In Johannesburg, South Africa, Nico Van Der Meulen Architects designed this spectacular 26,000 square
foot home. They are the versifiers of enchantment, the makers of splendor in house designs, creators of fairy
tale like habitats, spreading their pixie dust of mastermind over this mesmerizing Glasshouse planned to
infuse charisma into the hearts of its viewers.
It is an open, light filled house where views of the backyard are seen from all rooms. The architects devised
a massive complex of living spaces, arranged in a semi-circular pattern to envelope the garden. Immense
concrete framework is arranged in a radial pattern, emanating from the center of the home. The framework
complements outdoor living spaces, including the decks, patios, pools and fountains.
